May 2026

The Ripley County Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the Phi Beta Psi, Xi Chapter in Batesville, Indiana, as the May 2026 Member of the Month. This recognition celebrates an organization that has served the local communities for 100 years, fostering sisterhood with an unwavering commitment to the fight against cancer.

A Legacy of Service and Sisterhood

Phi Beta Psi’s roots date back to 1904 in Columbus, Ohio. Originally founded to fund polio research, the organization pivoted its mission in 1948 to tackle one of humanity’s greatest challenges: CANCER.

Today, the Xi Chapter, founded in 1926, stands as a vital link in a national chain of 58 chapters and over 1,065 active members. The heart of Xi Chapter focuses on an enormous amount of their efforts here in Ripley County, where members are united by the purpose of assisting those living with cancer locally while also supporting the organization’s national project to advance research toward a cure.

Providing Local Support is More Than Just a Mission

For the Xi Chapter, “philanthropy” isn’t just a word; it’s a set of actions that provide tangible relief to neighbors in need. Their work is particularly visible through their partnership with the MMH Cancer Center.

Patients beginning their journey are greeted with a “Hope” ornament, a small token of the community’s support. Throughout their treatment, Phi Beta Psi Xi Chapter provides practical support, including:

  • Meal vouchers and gas/grocery gift cards to ease financial burdens.
  • Prescription assistance to ensure treatment remains accessible.
  • The “Believe” ornament is awarded to patients when they triumphantly ring the bell at the end of their treatment.

During the holidays, the Christmas Smiles program goes a step further by providing family-specific gifts to brighten the season for cancer patients and their loved ones.

Being A Pillar of the Community

While cancer research is their primary focus, the Xi Chapter’s generosity extends across the region. As a non-profit, they consistently support local initiatives such as Project T3 Totes for Tots & Teens, Safe Passage, the Batesville Food Pantry, and the Summer Food Program for Kids, among many others.

How You Can Help
