The Chamber would like to congratulate the Beacon Publishing Co./The Beacon for becoming our April Member of the Month!
The BEACON is a monthly publication dedicated to the people who live, work and play in Dearborn, Ripley, Franklin and Ohio Counties in Indiana and Harrison, Ohio. It is one of Southeast Indiana’s hometown media companies.
Founded in 1994 by Liz Morris, the first paper was published even as people were saying that print media was dead. Celeste Calvitto came to Indiana in July 2009 to buy the monthly publication and expanded it into parts of four Indiana counties. When she retired, current publisher Tamara Taylor stepped up to continue to serve the community and grow the Beacon to fill that need.
Twenty-five years later, the company has grown 600 percent. The publication has expanded from a single sheet of paper to a 24-page periodical and a variety of media properties, and it is still growing!
The Beacon’s articles are filled with the news that is important to all of us.
In 2015, The Beacon added to their digital media platform by launching gobeaconnews.com. The website includes articles from the print publications as well as fresh content written just for the web.
The Beacon’s goal is to tell the story of Southeast Indiana’s incredible revitalization through the eyes of the communities’ most deserving businesses, organizations, events, and people. No story is too small to be featured, and that includes yours! We want to hear about it!
Ms. Taylor shared, “The Beacon continues to deliver positive, informative news to the residents of our community. I feel the positive focus is what makes The Beacon such a great asset to our community,” she said. “Continuing that commitment to our readers is very important to me.”
